Bernt Ends

tammy-wiggins What's for Lunch

Bernt Ends is a small family owned barbeque joint that started with a food truck. The food truck is still working around Jacksonville but you can now visit for a sit down meal on San Jose. Their restaurant is clean and inviting but that’s not the exciting part. When you walk in the door, the smell will literally make your mouth water. Smoky and intoxicating like a brisket was just pulled off a grill.
The friendly wife greets you with a welcoming smile and answers to any menu questions. I ordered a kid’s meal which includes any meat, side, a piece of garlic toast and a drink at a good price.

Nice size kid’s meal!

The ribs are meaty and tender but the star of this kid’s meal was the crac mac. It is so cheesy and cooked on the smoker so it has such a unique flavor. Absolutely delicious. We also tried the pork and turkey today which were both juicy and perfectly cooked. The pit master makes his own sauces too including a spicy datil pepper sauce.
I selected the greens as a side and they came with a moist datil cornbread muffin. The greens have a hint of smoky flavor and quite frankly they rank as some of the best I’ve ever had! They have several sides and a variety of meats but when they run out, that’s it for the day! Come out to support this husband and wife team then sit a spell to enjoy a true southern barbeque meal. Next time I have to sample the banana pudding ice cream!
